What is IB?
Imagine a worldwide community of schools, educators and students with a shared vision and mission to empower young people with the skills, values and knowledge to create a better and more peaceful world. This is the International Baccalaureate (IB). - “What is an IB Education?”
The IB offers three programmes, Diploma Programme (DP) for ages 16-19, Middle Years Programme (MYP) for ages 11-16, and the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for ages 3-12.
Under the PYP, offered at Francisca Alvarez Elementary, we focus on developing internationally minded students who will reflect on their own opinions and perspectives while respecting those of other human beings. Students learn to develop a set of attributes, also known as the Learner Profile, throughout their IB education that teach them to be compassionate and caring individuals.
IB Mission Statement
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
